The pilot program, started in the Spring 2011 semester, consisted of 7 courses in the disciplines of Chemistry, Physics, Biology, and Engineering, and was taught primarily at an eighth grade class at I.S. 143. In our second year, we taught three fourth grade classes, one sixth grade class and one seventh grade class. We are now in our seventh year, and START has grown internationally, having been adopted by the University of Zimbabwe and York University of Toronto, Canada. We still teach in our four local Washington Heights public schools.
